Read an underwear waist range before choosing a letter

A letter represents a waist band in this ASOS reference. An 83 cm waist falls within M, while the shared 81 cm boundary appears in both S and M ranges. The finder uses the first containing band, so compare adjacent cuts when you are on a boundary. Its result is a starting reference, not an estimate of waistband tension.

Briefs, trunks and boxers can share a waist label while providing different leg coverage and pouch space. Use your natural waist measurement and check where the specific waistband sits. If the waistband is comfortable but the leg opening digs in, simply repeating the country conversion will not resolve the cut difference.

Three checks before ordering

  1. Match the product brand, country system and garment type to the selected table.
  2. Keep body and garment measurements separate, with consistent centimetre or inch units.
  3. Check the specific style’s length, width and stretch, then read the store’s sizing and exchange information.

START WITH MEASUREMENTS

How to measure

Chest / bustNatural waistFullest hipsHeight
Measure circumferences all the way around the body, not across the front. Measure height barefoot. Diagram not to scale.
  1. 01

Stand naturally and measure around your waist with a level tape.

  2. 02

Keep the tape close without pulling it tight; record the measurement unit.

  3. 03

Compare the measurement with the product’s waist position and fabric stretch.

A few things labels don’t tell you.

Elastic waistbands and leg openings affect comfort. A waist match alone cannot predict the fit of the pouch or thighs.
